Sometimes....
You just have to wonder if this conversation ever happened:
God: Now listen up closely, guys: the Universe is 15 billion years old.
Bible-writer 1: (to Bible-writer 2) What did he say?
Bible-writer 2: Ummm...the Universe is 15 something years old.
BW 1: We can't put that down like that!
BW 2: Well...
BW 1: What's the biggest number you can think of?
BW 2: Ummm...three thousand?
BW 1: Perfect.
God: Now listen up closely, guys: the Universe is 15 billion years old.
Bible-writer 1: (to Bible-writer 2) What did he say?
Bible-writer 2: Ummm...the Universe is 15 something years old.

I kind of imagine a continuation into the new testament that goes something like this:
Jesus: Ok guys, listen up. I want you to love everyone and be nice. To everyone. That clear?
Bible-Writer 1: Absolutely
(Jesus gets crucified)
Bible-Writer 2: So what did he say again?
BW1: Can't remember. But let's indocrinate hatred.
BW2: Sounds great. It's time for some lynchings.
